Today it was announced that California Senator Dianne Feinstein has died at the age of 90.

Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer said, "Earlier this morning, we lost a giant. Today we grieve. We look at that desk, we know what we have lost." (Image from NBC)

She passed away last night in her home in Washington DC, shortly after casting her last vote to prevent the government shutdown that is scheduled for this weekend.

She served 3 decades as a senator for California, the longest-serving woman senator in American history.

This morning, her colleagues placed a black shroud with vase full of white roses on top of her Senate desk. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also asked for a moment of silence for Feinstein stating, "earlier this morning, we lost a giant. Today we grieve. We look at that desk, we know what we have lost."
