Introduction
SO many of my friends and family have recommended this movie to me, so I thought, "hey why not"! Music is an enormous passion of mine. I can't even put into words how much I love music. I work at a radio station for heaven's sake that should be enough evidence for you, Sherlock! I knew from the get-go that this movie has made MILLIONS of people cry. Unfortunately, this one didn't cause me to leak from my eyes, but I was CLOSE! To be fair, I’ve never cried during a movie (even Marley & Me and The Fault in our stars). Despite not emotionally falling apart, I fell in love with this film, and it wasn't even 5 minutes into the scene. Even though this is basically just another version of “The Book of Life”, it exceeded my expectations on so many levels: the music, culture, storyline, costumes, concept, setting, and characters were VERY well done.
Character(s)
I hate the grandma with a FIREY burning passion. I wanted karma to lead the way by taking everything she owned and burning it because she crushed Miguel’s dreams so early in the movie. Anyone who gets in the way of a person’s hopes and dreams shouldn’t be allowed to have dreams themselves. iii. Hector is my favorite character in this entire movie. I also love Dante, of course, why wouldn’t I, he’s a dog (sort of). Héctor has a heart of gold despite him lying and cheating in the beginning. People misunderstand him, and that's why so many people reject him. They don't take the time to get to know him. I was so so so freakin happy when he ended up being related to Miguel because it makes so much sense now. Talk about a plot twist!!
Fun Facts
Marigolds are the only plants in the Land of the Dead. At least they’re pretty!
When someone plays the guitar in the movie, they’re actually playing the correct notes/chords. Disney is so specific!!
It took 6 years to finish producing this film. I wouldn’t be able to wait that long.
This movie took up the most effort and time than any other Pixar film. Time is money folks!
Take Away
The biggest thing I took away from this is that family is the most important aspect of life. You can have objects, money, your dream job, whatever it is you THINK makes you happy. What happens when you lose the one thing you took for granted? Family. That is my biggest fear in life, and I sure hope it's yours because you only get family once, so make it count. Wow, I'm tearing up writing this. This movie makes you really appreciate the people we have in our lives. Everyone has something to offer the world. I think I might just let the people I care about know how much I love and appreciate them. You should too; it’ll make their day- or year-. Thanks, Disney!
