A 48 hour extension of the truce between Israel and Hamas is being requested by mediators in Qatar, the U.S. and Egypt as the truce is planned to end today.
The request is meant to allow for more aid to be sent to the affected areas in Gaza and the release of more hostages. The extension will only occur if at least ten Israel hostages are released by Hamas today as planned.
Since the truce began six days ago, Hamas has released 81 hostages in exchange for 180 Palestinian prisoners, all of which were woman and children and many who were detained but never charged.
This 48 hour extension request would require Hamas and Israel to continue this exchange, otherwise the truce is void.
