President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jingping recently met, and afterwards, had some choice words for each other, namely Biden, who’s had quotes come out which may halt the positive progression of their meeting.
Directly following their meetup, Biden spoke to press where, when asked if Xi Jingping is a dictator, he stated, “Well, look, he’s a dictator in the sense that he is a guy who runs a country that is a communist country that’s based on a form of government totally different than ours.”
This quote was met with immediate backlash, as Mao Ning, a Chinese spokesperson, called the comments, “extremely erroneous” and an, “irresponsible political maneuver.”
Ning added, “What needs to be pointed out is that there will always be some people with ulterior motives attempting to undermine China-US relations. They will not succeed in doing so.”
There wasn’t much coverage on words that may have been said by Jingping, but when he did speak, he made it count, stating, “China has no plans to surpass or unseat the United States, and the United States should not scheme to suppress or contain China. Both sides should understand each other’s principles and bottom lines, not make or stir up trouble or cross boundaries, (but instead) communicate more, have more dialogue and more discussions, and handle differences and accidents calmly.”
Not much is known on the exact contents of the pair’s meeting, but as more information becomes available, we’ll keep you updated here on news central.
