We had quite the packed out weekend for some of our CWU sports teams, starting with the lady cat volleyball team, which swept their way through Alaska Fairbanks University on Thursday, winning 3 sets to none and continuing a reign of dominance that wasn’t finished. Sunday, the Lady Cats went into their matchup against Alaska Anchorage with a great crowd at the Nicholson Arena, and beat the Seawolves 3 sets to 1 on senior night. The Next matchup for the lady cats will be this Thursday when they go head-to-head with Simon Fraser University.
Then, the women’s basketball team rolled into the CCAA/GNAC challenge with a head of steam, and could not be stopped as they swept through the weekend’s events, beating Cal State east bay, as well as Cal State San Bernardino. Their first game ended with some dramatics, going to overtime before eventually winning by a score of 70-63. Your next opportunity to see the women’s basketball team in person will be tomorrow, as they play against Cal State Los Angeles at home at 7.
The Men’s basketball team was also in action this weekend, with two solid performances against the same set of Cal State teams. The men’s team would win a game and drop a game, finishing 1-1 in the challenge. Their next matchup will be this Friday, when they face off against Westminster and Cal State Los Angeles at 5 and 7 p.m respectively.
Then, your CWU football team wrapped up regular season play, falling for the first and only time of the regular season against the LSC champions, UT Permian Basin. The Wildcats held their opposition to a close game all through the first half, but unfortunately dropped the second half in convincing fashion. The Wildcats, despite losing, HAVE punched their ticket to the NCAA D2 Championship tournament, facing the #2 seeded Western Colorado in Gunnison, CO this Saturday at a time which is yet to be decided.
